“Small Changes, Big Impact” : 김기드온, 정인지 2인전

 

리나갤러리는 오는 2025년 4월 15일(화)부터 5월 31일(토)까지 김기드온, 정인지 작가의 2인전 <Small Changes, Big Impact> 전시를 개최한다.

 

작은 단위인 점에서 출발하여 점 하나가 다른 점들과 결합하고, 선을 이루고, 결국에는 면을 만들어갈 때, 그 점은 단지 하나의 존재로서 그치는 것이 아니라 하나하나의 요소들이 모여 변화의 과정에 참여하며 새로운 의미를 만들어낸다. 김기드온과 정인지 작가는 점, 선, 면의 언어를 매개로 미시적인 변화가 어떻게 거시적인 구조로 확장되는지를 각기 다른 접근 방식으로 표현한다.

 

김기드온 (B.1990) 작가는 모든 형(型)의 기본인 점, 선, 면 조형 원리를 이용하여 가구의 필수 요소만을 남긴 절제된 조형 작품들을 제작한다. ‘선이 남긴 흔적은 면으로 확장되고, 면이 모여 형태를 완성한다.’ 라는 조형이론을 바탕으로 와이어 메시와 로프 같은 일상적인 재료를 활용하여 금속과 패브릭이라는 물성의 온도차이를 얽히게 하는 작업을 이어오고 있다.

 

정인지 (B.1985) 작가는 사회 구조에서 형성된 후천적 경험과 시지각적 인식 간의 상관관계를 추적하고, 현실 이면을 원초적 단위로 파악하며 이를 회화적 화면과 가시적 구조물로 풀어낸다. 복잡한 현실을 시각적 리듬과 조형적 규칙으로 변환하여 ‘점, 선, 면’의 조형 요소를 통해 그 규칙을 확장, 해체하며 작업한다.

 

이번 전시 <Small Changes, Big Impact>는 점이 선을 만들고, 선이 면을 만들며 점차 확장해 나가는 과정과 같이 작은 변화가 어떻게 큰 영향을 만들어내고, 더 나아가 그 영향이 어떻게 새로운 가능성과 의미를 창출해낼 수 있는지에 대한 물음을 던지고자 한다. 전시를 관람하는 관람객 개개인의 잠재력을 깊이 탐색하며, 새로운 통찰과 감동의 경험을 불러일으킬 수 있기를 바란다.

Lina Gallery will present the curated exhibition Small Changes, Big Impact, featuring artists Gideon Kim and Ingee Chung, from Tuesday, April 15 to Saturday, May 31, 2025.

Starting from the smallest unit—a single point—when one point joins others to form a line, and eventually a surface, it transcends being a mere dot. Each element participates in a process of transformation, collectively generating new meaning. Through the visual language of points, lines, and planes, Gideon Kim and Ingee chung each explore how microscopic changes can evolve into macroscopic structures through their own distinct artistic approaches.

Gideon Kim (b.1990) creates minimalistic sculptural works that retain only the essential elements of furniture, utilizing the fundamental design principles of points, lines, and planes. Based on the theory that "a line leaves a trace that extends into a plane, and the accumulation of planes completes a form," he works with everyday materials like wire mesh and rope, intertwining the contrasting textures and temperatures of metal and fabric.

Ingee Chung (b.1985) investigates the relationship between acquired experiences shaped by societal structures and perceptual recognition. he deconstructs the hidden layers of reality into fundamental units and reinterprets them as painterly compositions and visible structures. By converting the complexities of reality into visual rhythms and formal rules, she expands and dismantles those systems using the elements of point, line, and plane.

As a curated exhibition, Small Changes, Big Impact raises questions about how subtle changes can lead to significant outcomes—just as a point forms a line, a line forms a plane, and the plane continues to expand. The exhibition invites viewers to reflect on their own potential and to experience moments of insight and emotional resonance through this unfolding process of transformation.
