개체와 개체는 끊임없는 비교 행위를 하며, 다른 개체로부터 ‘인정 투쟁’을 펼친다. 그러한 ‘인정 투쟁’은 동시대를 살아가는 현대인들의 다양한 관계 속에 스며들어 있으며, 특히, 인터넷 기술을 기반으로 한 ‘소셜 네트워크’에서 보다 쉽게 목격할 수 있다. 개인 소셜 네트워크에 사진을 찍어 게시물을 업로드하는, 이른바 ‘인증샷’을 그 예로 들 수 있을 것이다. 현실과 가상의 공간에서 나타나는 끊임없는 비교 행위는 개인의 일상에 온전히 집중하거나 만족할 수 없는 요인으로 작용한다. 이번 전시 <Frame law>는 ‘소셜 네트워크’, ‘현대인’에 대한 주제로 동시대 사회 문제에 대하여 집중하는 신진/청년 작가의 전시를 선보이고자 한다.

 

문민 작가는 동시대를 살아가는 현대인의 모습을 조형적 언어로 작업한다. 동시대를 사각형 틀로 축조된 형상에 반영하여 구조적인 공간으로 재해석하고, 우리의 삶 속에 다양한 관계를 맺으며 살아가는 현대인의 내면을 직관적으로 담아낸다. 작가는 알루미늄과 구리라는 소재를 통해 금속의 차가움 속에서도 그 안에 담긴 현대인의 따스한 감정을 표현하고자 한다.

 

원나래 작가는 ‘연출된 자아’라는 주제를 다루며 작업한다. 우리가 보고 있는 것은 실제로 자연스러운 모습인가, 아니면 완벽하게 가꿔진, 연출된 이미지를 보고 있는 것일까? 작가는 SNS에 업로드 되는 연출되어진 식물 사진과 사람들의 셀피 등 ‘인생샷’이 교차되는 지점을 바라보고, 이를 실재와 가상의 경계를 넘나드는 이미지로 재현한다. 타인으로부터 정의되거나 보편화된 미(美)에 초점을 맞춰 가꾸어진 식물을 소재로 삼아, 그에 따라 편집되거나 가꿔지며 본래의 것에서 서서히 멀어져버린 식물의 모습을 담아낸다.

 

이번 전시는 2025년 2월 20일부터 3월 31일 서울시 강남구 논현동에 위치한 리나갤러리 서울에서 선보인다. <Frame law>전시를 통해 ‘타인과의 비교’와 ‘인정 투쟁’의 상태에서 벗어난 온전한 나 자신을 탐색해 볼 수 있는 시간이 되길 기대한다.

 

Beings constantly compare themselves with one another, engaging in a “struggle for recognition” from others. This struggle is deeply embedded in the various relationships of contemporary individuals and is particularly evident in social networks based on internet technology. A prime example is the act of taking and uploading “proof shots” on personal social media. This relentless act of comparison, both in the real and virtual world, often prevents individuals from fully focusing on or being satisfied with their daily lives. The exhibition  aims to showcase works by emerging and young artists who focus on contemporary social issues, exploring themes related to social networks and modern individuals.

Artist Moon Min expresses the contemporary human condition through a sculptural language. By reflecting modern society in rectangular frames and reconstructing it as a structured space, the artist intuitively captures the inner world of contemporary individuals, who form various relationships in their daily lives. Through the materials of aluminum and copper, Moon seeks to convey the warmth of human emotions embedded within the coldness of metal.

Artist Won Narae explores the theme of the “constructed self.” Are the images we see truly natural, or are they carefully curated and staged? Won examines the intersection of staged plant photos and selfies uploaded to social media—so-called “life shots”—and reinterprets them as images that blur the boundary between reality and the virtual. By focusing on plants that have been groomed to fit a socially defined standard of beauty, the artist highlights how they are edited and cultivated, gradually drifting away from their original forms.

The exhibition will be held at Lina Gallery Seoul in Nonhyeon-dong, Gangnam-gu, Seoul, from February 20 to March 31, 2025. Through , we hope visitors will take the time to explore their true selves, free from the pressures of comparison and the struggle for recognition.
