STEP UP은 2009년부터 리나갤러리가 이어온 청년작가 기획전으로, 새로운 가능성을 지닌 작가들을 발굴하고 소개하는 프로젝트이다. 매회 서로 다른 작업 세계를 가진 작가들을 통해 동시대 미술의 다양한 흐름을 제시하며, 앞으로의 활동이 기대되는 작가들을 꾸준히 조명해왔다.

2026 STEP UP: New Perspective는 각기 다른 방식으로 현실을 바라보고 해석하는 두 작가, 강수희와 이효선을 소개한다.

강수희는 디스토피아적 풍경 속에 등장하는 '유령'을 통해 기억과 상실, 정체성을 탐구한다. 유령은 작가 자신의 내면이자 사라진 존재를 환기하는 상징으로 기능하며, 현실과 비현실이 교차하는 밤의 풍경 속에서 감정의 흔적과 기억의 잔상을 담아낸다. 어둡고 고요한 화면은 인물과 동물의 관계를 통해 말로 설명하기 어려운 내면의 감정을 은유적으로 드러낸다.

이효선은 신체와 자연, 사물의 경계를 유기적인 곡선과 흐름으로 연결하며 존재와 감각의 확장을 탐구한다. 최근 연작 Still Inside에서는 확대되는 이미지와 축소되는 화면 구성을 통해 현대 사회 속 개인의 시선과 내면을 살펴보고, 현실과 가상, 머묾과 이탈 사이에서 형성되는 감각과 관계를 회화적으로 풀어낸다. 그의 작업은 고정된 형태보다 변화하는 과정과 존재 간의 연결에 주목하며 새로운 감각의 가능성을 제안한다.

두 작가는 서로 다른 조형 언어를 사용하지만, 눈에 보이지 않는 감정과 경험을 회화로 드러낸다는 공통점을 가진다. 기억과 상실, 연결과 확장이라는 서로 다른 주제는 각자의 시선으로 현실을 다시 바라보게 하며, 익숙한 풍경 이면의 감각을 환기한다.

2026 STEP UP: New Perspective는 서로 다른 두 개의 시선을 통해 동시대 청년작가들이 현실을 해석하는 방식을 조명하는 자리이다. 이번 전시는 각자의 조형 언어로 구축한 두 작가의 세계를 통해, 우리가 익숙하게 바라보던 현실을 새로운 관점에서 마주하는 경험을 제안한다.

STEP UP is an emerging artists exhibition project that LINA Gallery has continued since 2009, dedicated to discovering and introducing promising contemporary artists. Through diverse artistic practices, the project has consistently highlighted new voices and perspectives in contemporary art.

2026 STEP UP: New Perspective presents two artists, Kang Soohee and Lee Hyosun, who offer distinct ways of interpreting reality.

Kang Soohee explores memory, loss, and identity through the recurring image of the “ghost” within dystopian landscapes. Functioning as both a reflection of the self and a symbol of absent beings, the ghost inhabits nocturnal scenes where reality and unreality intersect. Through quiet and contemplative imagery, her works evoke traces of emotion and lingering memories.

Lee Hyosun investigates connection and transformation through organic forms that blur the boundaries between the body, nature, and objects. In her recent series, Still Inside, enlarged imagery and compressed frames examine individual perception and inner worlds shaped by contemporary society. Her paintings explore the relationships formed between reality and virtuality, connection and isolation.

While employing different visual languages, both artists seek to visualize invisible emotions and experiences. Through themes of memory and loss, connection and expansion, their works invite viewers to encounter familiar realities from new perspectives.

2026 STEP UP: New Perspective offers an opportunity to explore how two emerging artists interpret the world around them, revealing new ways of seeing and understanding contemporary experience.
